In my observations, in answer to the previous inquiry, Ineglected to mention that some of those quarries of sandstoneare of the proper quality for grindstones ; within a few years,they have become quite an article of commerce ; and hun-dreds of excellent grindstones are every year sent down theOhio, into the lower part of this state, and to the states bor-dering on the river, where they meet with a ready sale, as thestone proper for their construction is not common at a con-siderable distance down the Ohio. In many of these quar-ries the stone is found in strata of a proper thickness forgrindstones ; so that the stone cutter has but little more to do,than to give the stone the circular form, and cut the hole forthe crank, and his work is Fi^. 1.
