He was a trustee of the Beverly Public Libraryfor a term of years and served the town for many —35— THE MOULT ON FAMILY years as a member of the school committee. Hewas a Unitarian and always attended the servicesof that church. When his minister preached hisfuneral sermon he spoke of him as one of the bestmen in his parish and one who had helped him byhis example and counsel as much as anyone in hischurch. Moulton, the following me-morial was adopted. Several speeches followed thereading of the memorial address among which wasone of Justice Loring of the Supreme Judicial Court,which paid a very high tribute to the deceased as aman and a lawyer. Mr. Moulton was born in Beverly and his lifework was done in Essex county, and there he al-ways resided. He was of Puritan ancestry. Hewas a lineal descendant in the eighth generationof James Moulton, who was born in England in1602. James was a member of the church and afreeman in Salem in 1637.
