The operculum is horny, long', and narrow, resting upon a thin tail. J'Urocerax, Lam., have the mar- gin of the full-grown shell divided into long, slender dictations, varying in number ac- cording to the species. The animal is the same a- in Strombns, Other Strombusida; have the sinus con- tiguous to the siphon. These are the Jlox- ie/lmia, Lain. They have generally a second canal mounting up the spire, and formed by the external lip, and by a continuation of the columella. In some of tln-in the lip is digitated. Their animal resembles that of the Mnricidee ; but the operculum is very small. Others have merely denticulations on the lip : their canal is long and straight. Others have the margin entire and plane ; and these are the Hippucrems, Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original Cuvier, Georges, baron, 1769-1832; Blyth, Edward, 1810-1873; Mudie, Robert, 1777-1842; Johnston, George, 1797-1855; Westwood, J.
