In-doors it should never be ex- posed to the dry heat from a stove or open fire- place otherwise the leaves will drop off and j^lant perish. Pinus pentaphylla and i)ine trees in L;eneral growing in jardinieres rec^uire the attention in watering and general treatment as Thuja obtusa, but are not so much influenced by atmospheric conditions, nevertheless sun and air are necessary to maintain health therefore keep the i)lants out- of-doors as much as possible. Maples and other deciduous trees take the same treatment as Thuja obtusa as regards water- ing but are much more accomuKxlating than ever- greens ; in fairly mild climates, tlic maples may remain out-of-doors all winter, but w here the fr(^st is very severe they should be kept in a cellar after the leaves have fallen in autiuim, the soil must always be kept moist but not icd ; early in spring put the plant out-(^f-doors and fulh' exposed to all weathers and when in full leaf use Un' decoration in-doors as needed. Manukint;:—When the trees commence growing in spring AVe give manure twice a month .say, March, April, May and June, again September and October, in the hot days of July and August.
