Wool industry, 18th century. Illustration of wool being cleaned and untangled (carded) with hand tools as used in the 18th century. This was a laborious process, later made more efficient by mechanisation in the 19th century. Artwork from volume 8 (1868) of a republication of 'Les Grandes Usines', a multi-volume work on French industry by journalist and author Julien Turgan (1824-1887).
