Despite the fact that theforegoing table has to do only with jnipils in regular classes, and, despitethe fact that age is judged from the point of view of the age limitsfixed for being in the grade in which pupils are registered after promo-tion, there were in the regular classes of all grades, June 30, 1911, ac-cording to the City Superintendent of Schools, 131,858 over-age pupils,or per cent, of the pupils on register after promotion were be-hind their grade for their age.
