De-caying skeletons noted in several places inthe course of sinking experimental shaftsled us to exercise great care. Abandoningthe teams, we put in men with shovels andhand trowels and completed the examina-tion by hand. In this section hundreds ofsmall masses of various colored earths wereobserved. Short irregular layers of sandalso extended in various directions. Skel-etons 242, 3, 4 and 5 were uncovered, witha few shells,
