TENIERS. David Teniers (Tenier) II. Flemish School,1610—1690. Son of the painter David Teniers I., baptised at Antwerp Dec. 15, i6ro, became amaster of the Antwerp Painters Guild in 1633 ; in 1651 he went to Brussels as Court Painterto the Archduke Leopold William, and died there on Ap. 25, 1690. His career wasprosperous and he left a large property and a fine country house at Perck, of which there isa view in a picture by him in the National Gallery (no. 817). He was taught painting byhis father, but his works clearly shew the influence of Rubens and of Adriaen is essentially a genre painter in spirit, though he occasionally paints biblical andmythological subjects, and the landscape element is sometimes impor
