Wenshu Yuan (Wenshu Temple) dates back to the Tang Dynasty (June 18, 618–June 4, 907), and was originally known as Xinxiang Temple. It is now a popular Zen Buddhist temple. Chengdu, known formerly as Chengtu, is the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China. In the early 4th century BCE, the 9th Kaiming king of the ancient Shu moved his capital to the city's current location from today's nearby Pixian.
