PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 26, 2016) – The trimaran of Chinese mariner Guo Chuan sails through the Pacific Ocean. The amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), with the embarked Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 21, located the vessel during a search and rescue operation after Chuan’s ground support team lost contact with him. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group is deployed with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of the Navy’s maritime strategy in the 3rd Fleet area of responsibility.
