Mongolia/China: Kublai Khan (23 September 1215 - 18 February 1294), 5th Khagan of the Mongol Empire (). Ming Dynasty hanging scroll painting, 1368-1644. Kublai/Khubilai Khan, regnal name Setsen Khan and temple name Shizu, was the fifth Great Khan of the Mongol Empire and the founder of the Yuan Dynasty in East Asia. As the second son of Tolui Khan and a grandson of Genghis Khan, he claimed the title of Khagan of the Ikh Mongol Uls (Mongol Empire). In 1271, Kublai established the Yuan Dynasty, and by 1279 had conquered all of China, becoming the first non-Chinese Emperor to do so.
