Tursunaly Turaev overseas an antiquated water pump station in the village of Andarhan. The station, which was built in 1975 by the Soviet Union, provides irrigation water for sunflower production in the nearby villages. However, the water provided by he facility through a series of irrigation canals called aryk is not controlled for human consumption. In villages across Kyrgyzstan (Central Asia) antiquated water delivery systems and infrastructure is the cause of health issues such as outbreaks of hepatitis and gastrointestinal disease, especially among children.
