Edward Henry Stanley, 15th Earl of Derby(1826 – 1893), known as Lord Stanley from 1851 to 1869, was a British statesman. He twice served as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. He enunciated the Policy of Splendid Isolation in 1866, a diplomatic policy of avoiding alliances and entanglements.
