Though distinctly a German institution,the saengerfest, or festival of song, oughtto be of interest to every lover of goodvocal music, regardless of the nationalityto which he or she may belong. In therendition of the plaintive folk songs of thefatherland, as well as the compositions ofthe great masters, the German masschoruses are unexcelled by any other classof singers. The songs to be sung at thesaengerfest are now being rehearsed atregular intervals by every society con-nected with the Northeastern order that there may be an absoluteuniformity of rendition, Prof. DavidMelamet, the musical director of the fest,will rehearse each of the societies whichwill participate.
