Reinforced concrete floorand roof arches are used prevent the spread of flames, firewalls have been run from low watermark to the roof along the north andsouth walls of the ferry house, and atother points. This foundation is unusualfor a building of this character, but was nec-essary to meet the Government regulations,which require that the tide should ebb andflow under the structure, thus practicallylimiting the choice of foundations to a piledeck construction, which was built. Thepiles for all column foundations were cut offat low water and concrete piers built up tothe deck.
