A Greek silver-mounted and gold-inlaid shamshir, circa 1800 Curved blade of Wootz Damascus steel, the obverse with gold-inlaid Greek inscription "CONSTANTINE WITH THIS PIECE YOU WILL DEFEAT YOUR FOES". The root with gold-plated silver application showing Emperor Constantine, his mother Helena and the holy cross. On the reverse an applied gilt cartouche with Byzantine(?) inscription. Florally engraved quillons and grip scales of gilt (partially darkened) silver. Rare, elaborately decorated sabre.
