By reflecting that he was educated, and alsoprotected in the enjoyment of his life, property and as-sociations, at the public expense, and that he partici-pated in the general prosperity of his district for manyyears in succession, his conceptions of duty should be soquickened and elevated as to induce him to do somepositive act in behalf of good government, not so muchwith a desire to fill an office himself as to see that aproperly qualified p^erson is selected to do so.
