From 1843 tothe time of his death, Mr. Phillips was President ofthe New England Mutual Life Insurance received the degree of Doctor of Laws fromHarvard in 1653, conducted the North AmericanReview during the second year of its existence andremained one of its contributors until 1834, editedthe American Jurist for a number of years, and pub-lished several standard treatises on political economy,the law of insurance, of inventions and of partner-ships.
