Bedsores. Close-up of decubitus ulcers (pressure/bed sore) on the buttocks of a 95-year-old male patient. Bedsores can occur when a patient is immobile, putting prolonged pressure on an area of the body. The pressure restricts the blood supply, which over time can lead to necrosis (death) of the surrounding tissue. If left untreated, the necrosis can extend through the fascia into structures such as bone and muscle.
