The grave site of James Martinus Schoonmaker and his family in the Homewood Cemetery located in Pittsburgh, was a German American who was a Colonel in the Union Army in the Civil War and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his fighting at in the Third battle of Winchester in 1864. After the war he became rich in the coke industry in western Pennsylvania and was on the Board of Directors at Mellon Bank. He died on October 11, 1927.
