, Bruges, West Flanders, Belgium - Detail of the facade of the Holy Blood Basilica, Basiliek van het Heilig Bloed. The facade was created around 1530 and decorated with stone and partly golden statues and medallions. In the foreground a lion with the coat of arms of West Flanders. The church is located on the castle called the Old Town Square. The medieval town center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. In 2002, Bruges was European Capital of Culture.
