Antique 19th-century illustration depicting Apollo and the Muses on Mount Parnassus, painting by Anton Raphael Mengs (dated 1755). He was born on March 12, 1728 in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic and died on June 29, 1779 in Rome, Italy. Mengs was German painter, one of the precursors to Neoclassical painting. Engraving published in Systematischer Bilder Atlas - Bauwesen, Ikonographische Encyklopaedie der Wissenschaften und Kuenste (Brockhaus, Leipzig) in 1875.
