Fuel cell. Hand holding a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC), a chemical reactor that converts methanol and water into electricity. DMFCs are more efficient and cleaner than conventional batteries. They last a lot longer and weigh less for the amount of energy that they provide. The waste products of this fuel cell are water and a small amount of carbon dioxide, making it more environmentally friendly than existing batteries and fossil fuel engines. This is the first DMFC to be portable, allowing it to be used for powering demanding items such as laptop computers and video cameras. It has been manufactured by Smart Fuel Cell Ltd, Munich, Germany.
