Royal Air Force Panavia Tornado GR4 military jet plane in Malta during operations over Libya, 29 July 2011

Malta did not serve as a base for combat operations over Libya, but a number of NATO aircraft including this Tornado made emergency landings in Malta after developing faults during missions. The aircraft is shown with two others (a Danish F-16 and another British Tornado) while awaiting repairs.
