View NW of Stormy Point Bronze Age copper mining site on Alderley Edge sandstone escarpment, Cheshire. The carved rectangular block sealing a hole in the surface workings is known as the Devil's Grave. Copper mining took place at Stormy Point from prehistoric times up to the C19th; also mining for cobalt & lead. The area is designated an SSSI for its biological & geological interest, and rich in myths & legends, used most notably by writer Alan Garner in his The Weirdstone of Brisingamen series of novels. A National Trust property.
