Top: The doomed battleship Virginia - Seven Minutes Before Noon; Middle: An 1100-pound bomb explodes alongside; Bottom: Seven Minues after Noon. In 1922, the War Department classified the Virginia as a target ship for bombing tests, along with her sister ship the USS New Jersey. The New Jersey was bombed first and sunk and then the Virginia.
