Geological features near the Ombretta pass at 2704 m The black and red rocks are strands of magmatic rocks that have crossed sedimentary rocks already in place, often producing a contact metamorphism in the encasing rocks. They can be traced back to the Ladinian volcanism (so-called Vulcano della Marmolada). In the background the Rosalia Valley, and the Contrin Valley. The Ombretta pass is near The Marmolada south wall. The Dolomites.
