ARTICHOKE The Best and Cheapest Hog Pood Known Sutton's Colossal Artichoke It is without question the greatest root hog fattener in the world. Its yield is so enor- mous, bordering on the fabulous, that one can scarcely believe the quantity that can be grown from an acre of our Colossal Artichokes. Farmers who have given them athorough trial the past year report yields from 400 to 1,200 bushels per acre. We cannot too strongly urge upon everyfarmer to plant a barrel or more this spring. Plant the Artichokes where you can allow them to remain, and your hoes, if turned into them, will grow fat and healthy, and will not know what sick- ness is. Thev need not be dug in the fall; -the hogs should be turned in on them, and will help themselves by rooting for them. One acre will keep from 20 to 30 head in fine condition from October until April, except when the ground isfrozen too hard for them to root, lliey are also said to be apreven- tive of cholera and other hog diseases; and they are also highly recommended for milch cows, increasing the yield of milk and at the same time improving their con- dition. They are well adapted to any soil where Com or Potatoes can be grown. One barrel will seed an acre, though we prefer 3 barrels on 2 acres, and they should be cut the same as Potatoes, one eye to a cut being suflficient, planted in April or May, in rows 3 feet apart and 2 feet in the rows, and covered about 2 inches deep. To deitroy them, they should be plowed under when the plant is about a foot high, at which time the old tuber has decayed and new ones are not yet formed. They are not injured by freezing while in the ground Lb. 86c., 3 lbs. • , poRtpatd; by freiKht or exprean, qt. 16c., pk. 90c., bn. , bbl. (enon^b for 1 acre), , 2 bbls. JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE.
