Bucks Mills Village on the North Devon Coast. Road Ends With Cottages and Glimpse of Atlantic Ocean.
Street view of Bucks Mills beach, near Clovelly, on a winter’s day with a clear blue sky. Continue past these cottages to access the beach by the steep path, which leads down from the village. It takes you behind the old lime kiln and cliff top houses. The pebbles stony beach faces north and is in the shadow of the cliff. Local history suggests that survivors from the Spanish Armada settled here marrying the local women. It was an isolated village with the residents being self sufficient on agriculture and fishing. Lime was burned in the old lime kilns, which date from 1760. Bucks Mills is now a popular destination for tourists, who enjoy the beach, South West coastal path and surrounding woodlands.
