Agrigento, Sicily, Italy - 24 September 2019; Due to its subtropical climate, diverse topography and many microclimates, Sicily has a wide range of plant types - these range from temperate and Mediterranean through to subtropical and tropical. Here we see some Prickly Pear Cactus (Opuntia) - plus fruit - near to Agrigento, a hilltop city on Sicily's southwest coast. The fruits are edible; however, when I teried one, the seeds were so hard that it was like eating a bag of nails. So, not a success!
