Geological Alterations of Pyroxenites and Peridotites Serpentine.—The Bare Hills and Soldiers Delight serpentine areas are examples of serpentinized peridotite. They are characterized by a scanty vegetation of pine and cedar growing in a thin gray soil mantled in spring with the purple ground pink or Phlox subaculata that is so typical of areas underlain by serpentine rocks.
