There are two Blake jet condensers inthe. station of the cross-compound vertical air pump cylinder dimensions are / J ins. and 15 ins. high andlow pressure, 18 ins. water, 15 ins. stroke, and 6 ins. and 12ins., 18 ins. and 15 ins., respectively. The condensing cham-ber is 24 ins. in diameter and the exhaust pipe 14 ins. Thecondensers are cross-connected, to operate together if de-sired. The water buckets of the condenser pump are ofcomposition, fibrous-packed, and the water valves of me-dium rubber. Piston rods of the water cylinders are ofTobin bronze and the steam cylinder rods are steel, the latter. SAFETY STOP water connections between heaters and boilers. Low pres-sure piping is of flanged cast iron. Exhaust and water pipesin the main are of lap-welded iron. Akron pipe is used tocarry the overflow from the hot well and is laid with cementjoints. All straightaway valves are of the Chapman ValveManufacturing Companys make. All valves used in high-pressure work are extra heavy, and if 2\ ins. or above indiameter are made of a flanged iron body with bronze seatsand arranged with outside screw and yoke. By-passes areprovided on all high-pressure valves above 6 ins. Suchvalves have ribbed bodies, and all valves have compositionspindles. Low-pressure valves above 5 ins. have a flanged-iron body with babbitt seats, stationary spindles and indi-cators, excepting main exhaust valves, which are furnishedwith outside screw and yoke, with floor stands having pol-ished wheels and bodies. All valve stems are vertical as faras possible. Check valves are furnished in a
