Afterthe war he was on duty in the Territories and on thePacific Coast. Resigned his commission, 18til,and vol-unteered for the Confederate Army, commissioned Col.,shortly after promoted to , advanced to after being wounded at Gaines Mills. He wasengaged in nearly every battle fought by the Army ofNorthern Virginia. Retired to private life after surrender with an unquestioned record as a dar-ing and stubborn fighter. Died July ;ji), 1875.
