Burmese Water Festival in New York

As New Yorkers endure another 90+ degree day, participants in the 16th annual Burmese Water Festival splash each other on Sunday, July 18, 2010 in the Upper West splashing of water during the New Year festival metaphorically washes away the sins of the previous year and no one is safe when the crowd starts throwing water. This year the timing of the festival in New York is especially auspicious as the city is in the middle of a heat wave with over 90 degree temperatures forecast for the rest of the week. (© Richard B.
