Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola), Sacramento County California USA


The Bufflehead is one of only three extant members of the genus Bucephala, all of which are found only in the Northern Hemisphere. The Bufflehead can be found seasonally over most of North America including northern Mexico in the winter. This particular bird is swimming on the American River east of Sacramento California in a light rain.
