View E of Dun Telve Iron Age broch tower, Glenelg, Scotland, UK, showing the entrance passage & part of the wall still standing up to high: the characteristic inward slope (batter) of the outer wall (L) gives the broch a 'cooling-tower' shape. The entrance passage has a guard cell & a check & a draw-bar slot to secure a door. A solid base & two skins of drystone walling, tied together by flat lintel slabs forming level galleries between the walls, enclose a circular inner court nearly 10m across. Dun Telve is built on a gravel terrace on the valley floor amongst good farmland near the river. Large stone structures outside the tower are considered to be more modern than the broch.
