Scorhill stone circle, Dartmoor, Devon, England, UK, looking SSE towards the shelter belt of trees around Batworthy: 34 stones survive, 25 still stand

Scorhill stone circle, Dartmoor, Devon, England, UK, looking SSE towards the shelter belt of trees around Batworthy. Of 34 surviving stones, 25 still stand in a circle (88ft) across. Originally there were 65-70 stones, but the circle was much robbed & damaged in the years before 1800. The tallest surviving stone stands high at the NW, a recumbent slab at the SSW measures long x wide. The siting of the circle may have been influenced by the existence of The Tolman holed stone in the North Teign River in the dip to the SSE. A stone avenue may have led S from the circle, across Shovel Down to the Fernworthy stone circle forming a linked ceremonial complex. Two cart tracks cut through the circle.
