Wells ran on the platform of ?ǣNew St. Louis ?, targeting some the city's infrastructure problems, including cleaner drinking water, cleaner air, greener public spaces, and public bath houses. After his two terms of mayor, Wells held other civic offices, including positions at the Federal Reserve Bank, the Democratic National Committee, and the United Railways Company.
