Among the small sharks one is luminous over its entiresurface; the dogfishes have a spine in front of each dorsalfin, while the little Port Jackson shark, common aboutSanta Catalina, California, has a peculiar pink nail-likespine in front of each dorsal fin. This shark lies coiledup among the rocks much of the time; its egg is aspiral, leathery object, that is a perfect mimic of theweed in which it lies.
