Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. Bag containing enteral nutrition that is being administered through a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube to feed a 74-year-old male patient with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). PEG tubes are passed into a patient's stomach through the abdominal wall in order to provide a means of feeding when oral feeding is not adequate or possible. PSP is a degenerative disease caused by lesions on the primary motor cortex of the brain. This leads to gradual deterioration and death of specific regions of the brain. Symptoms include loss of balance with frequent falls, inability to control eye movements, personality changes and muscle rigidity. There is no cure for the condition.
