London, UK. 18th July 2017. Claire Glasman of Winvisible speaks at the protest outside Kentish Town Jobcentre by WinVisible, Unite Community Camden, Kilburn Unemployed Workers Group, Single Mothers’ Self-Defence, Camden Momentum, English Collective of Prostitutes, All African Women’s Group, and others in Disabled People Against Cuts day of local actions across the country against the effect of benefit cuts and welfare reforms on the poor and in particular on the disabled. It was part of DPAC's week of action during London World Para Athletics Championships which they say the government supports to cover up the way they are targeting disabled people, many who have already died as a result of benefit changes and the DWP's deliberate policy of attrition with largely arbitrary sanctions and unfairly administered tests of fitness to work. Under a new 'Claimant Commitment', so-called 'job coaches' can impose arbitrary conditions on claimants with no right of appeal, and if they are unable to find work in 24 months will be subject to a mandatory one year without benefits - nothing to live on for a whole year.
