Horse Gin c 1844 This was the first erected at Langton Colliery in 1844 and later moved to Green Pit at Pinxton to help with the reopening of a pit shaft The horse walked around in a circle to power the equipment to wind men and materials up and down the shaft It was still used at Pinxton as late as 1950 Gin is a corruption of the word engine
