Woman poses at entrance to Chac Mool, one of the cave systems on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. The openings are known as cenotes. These cenotes are popular for scuba divers, who must have special training or dive with a certified guide. Chac Mool is one of more than 110 named caverns in 60 known cave systems. The caves are the result of Karst topography, where rainwater dissolves limestone and creates horizontal underground river systems.
