Cab boats are moored on the quays of the Galata district. The maritime transport by ferries is a specificity of Istanbul. Despite the world's deepest tunnel under the Bosphorus for the metro and the inauguration of the new "Canakkale 1915 Bridge" in March 2022, the population and the 2019 newly elected mayor of Istanbul are promoting maritime transport to relieve road traffic and reduce CO2 emissions.
