Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland. The ruins of Hore Abbey in the Irish countryside with the Rock of Cashel in the background.
Hore Abbey in the Irish countryside in County Tipperary, near Cashel, Ireland. The abbey is the ruins of a 13th century Cistercian foundation dating from 1272. It is the last medieval Cistercian monastery remaining in Ireland. Hore Abbey was colonized by monks from Mellifont Abbey and comprised of a church, tower, cloister and living quarters. Today it rests in the countryside just west of Cashel near the town's more famous historical remnant, the Rock of Cashel shown in the background.
