There is another type of urinal, how-ever, which has given very good satis-faction, the type used largely in easterncities. This type of urinal, if properlyinstalled with vent flues and water Ma,y 1, 1909. PLUMBER AND STEAMFITTEk i flush, will prove very satisfactory, pro-vided non-absorbent materials arc used,and set up where vibration or settletnent will not damage its joints. The flushing of water closets andurinals in schools is a question worthsome study. Children cannot be de-pended upon to flush a fixture afterusing it, so that designers of suchplumbing usually provide for automaticflushing systems. The seat operating closet has givenvery good satisfaction when equippedwith good valves, tank and seat. Theopen tank is better under all conditionsthan the pressure tank, inasmuch as itsaction is independent of the city waterpressure.
