Old-fashioned factory shed with a pale pink facade on a blue sky, zig-zag roof, hydrant and windows in the southern suburbs of Milan, Italy

In this suburbs of the Milan city, Italy, in 1978 the well-known Italian photographer Gabriele Basilico (1944-2013) shot many black and white pictures for his photobook "Ritratti di fabbriche" (Portraits of factories). The aim of the book was to measure the space and capture the particular architectural style of industrial buildings on the outskirts of Milan to give them an aesthetic dignity that can be perceived through the relationships between light and shadow that draw the volumes, shapes, space and its extension. The book is still considered a great classic of Italian architectural photography.
