Shikra style temple in Bungamati, Kathmandu, with grain harvest

Bungamati is a small village in the south of the Kathmandu valley in Nepal. Taken in autumn 2004 when rice had been harvested and put out for drying. Subsistence farming is still a vital part of the economy. This is an important temple built in the corn cob or shikara style with white washed domed roof typical of this type of religious architecture. Blue skies and fluffy white clouds are typical at this time of year, after the monsoon rains have cleared the air. This is a public square or courtyard and children are always playing here.
