Unquestionably the most desirable chimney that can bebuilt is of the perforated radial blocks of the well knownCustodis Cut showing half elevation and half verti= cal section. Also cross-sectionsX Yaud V W. _ The advantage of this style of construction can best begiven by quoting from their trade literature as follows : In addition to being so shaped, the blocks are moulded withvertical holes, or perforations, to permit of more thorough bvirningin manufacture, thus increasing their density and sti-ength whilereducing the weight. Perforations also serve to form a dead airspace in the walls of the chimney, preventing the rapid heating andcooling of the wall causing maximum draft by conserving the heat. In laying the blocks the mortar is worked into the perforationsabout one-half inch, effectively locking the blocks together, and mak-ing the wall of the tightest possible construction. 1194 Atlanta, Ga., STUART W.
