A view of the main street of Luang Prabang in northern Laos. The air is yellowed by smoke from farmers' fires. The tradition of slash and burn farming continues in this region of Asia. Every year between February and May farmers burn vegetation to clear new areas of forest for agriculture. The practice is so extensive that the whole region suffers from severe air pollution.
